happy father's day

Another letter today...

Dear Husband,

It is too early in your children's lives for them to know how lucky they are to have you a a father. I tell them that not every dad is as awesome as you are. Not every dad builds sandcastles, constructs life-sized Angry Bird slingshots, gets up happily with his boys and makes them breakfast, plays hide-and-go-seek, changes the stinkiest diapers ever known to man, takes them to baseball games, comforts them when they fall, teaches them to ride bikes, lets them help cook, wristle-wrastle-wrestles with them, and listens to their feelings.

They know that you love them, every day for the rest of their lives. They know that you are there when they need you. But they don't know yet what that will mean when they are teenagers and making questionable decisions. They don't know yet what that will mean as an adult looking back on the times they spent with their dad, and how those times shaped them into the person they've become.

They know that you love their mama. But they don't know all the ways you support me, so that I can be the best mama possible. Getting up early. Cooking delicious meals. Working hard to support us. Encouraging me to take time for myself. Listening to what I need. Helping this family grow into something we all love and enjoy.

So on this day, and every day, know that we love you. We appreciate you. We are so lucky to have you. Happy Father's Day.
