currently

Over the past few months I've noticed many ladies around the blog universe are writing "currently" entries. I really enjoy reading them, and thought doing my own would be a good way to record more of what is going on with me. So you can expect one of these every month or so. If you write "currently" posts as well, let me know so I can check them out :)

Currently...

Loving: Trader Joe's Flourless Chocolate Cake. Since going gluten free a few months ago there are just a few things I miss. Number one is cake. Numbers two and three might also be cake. I discovered a flourless chocolate cake at our local artisan bakery. It is delicious, but pricey. And I have a handfull of gluten free recipes, but sometimes I just don't have the time to bake. So enter TJ's version. Moist, delicious, already ready, and less than half the price of the local bakery. Love.

Reading: I've just finished up The Language of Flowers. I personally loved it because it is based in San Francisco, and a lot of it takes place in the SF Flower Market. For those of you that don't know, I used to be a floral designer in the city. So this book takes me back. The story itself is emotionally charged and beautifully written. I'n not claiming best-book-ever status, but I couldn't put it down.

Watching: Downton Abbey Season 2. Through the marvels of modern technology, a friend delivered the entire second season "plus the Christmas Special!!!" on a tiny little jump drive to Derick last week. We are on the third episode, and I am enjoying it even more than the first season. They seemed to have really picked up the pace. My favorite character is old Lady Grantham. She gets all the best lines.

Thinking About: Everywhere I look in our home I see projects I'd like to get to. We've been planning a remodel of our family room since we moved in almost five years ago. I hope that we'll finally be getting started on that in a couple of weeks. I've also been choosing a new paint color for our downstairs for the past year. It seems impossible to find the time with two little ones to do any of the home improvement tasks on my list. So while Leo is still home with me full time, I think I will just have to practice my patience and find a way to take baby steps toward these projects to make me feel a little bit productive.

Anticipating: Katie's wedding. Katie is my best friend's little sister, and is like family. I will be doing the flowers for her wedding; the first I've done in three years. I've already put in my order at the flower market and am getting pretty excited. I've got grandparents coming in to help out with the boys, and Derick to help me install everything on the big day. People keep asking me if I'm considering a return to floral design as a career, and the answer is no.  But I am very much looking forward to this little return to my past, and a chance to be creative with flowers again.

Wishing: That my best friend lived closer. My dear Laura lives about a two hour drive away. We just visited her this weekend and had a blast. Our boys (husbands included) get along fabulously. And being with her is good for my soul. I so wish that she lived next door, and I could see her every day. But for now we will have to make do with phone calls and visits every couple of months.

Making me happy: Boys who love to swim! Finn made amazing progress with his swimming this summer. He is like a little fish, and loves being in the water. Though his form is a little rough, he is looking forward to more lessons and learning how to dive. Little Leo is fearless in the water. With his water wings on he just bobs around like a cork, jumping in to Daddy and having a grand time. He will be old enough to start swim lessons next summer, and I think he will catch up with big brother fairly quick. As I spent my childhood summers in and out of the pool all day, it makes me so happy to see them enjoying the water in that same way.
