light up my life

I don't know exactly how it started, but Leo is really really into candles these days. Maybe it was around his second birthday that we started talking about blowing out candles. He moved on to baking pretend birthday cakes and blowing out the candles.

Then at Halloween he started obsessing over the candles inside the jack-o-lanters. He kept asking about when we could light the candles again, and started pointing out all the candles around our house.

At grandma's house she went so far as to get out her box of holiday candles, which Leo now asks for at every visit. He sorts them by size and packs them back in the box. So I knew it wouldn't be long before he wanted the same deal at home. I gathered them up for him today. All my candles and candleholders in one spot. Leo was thrilled. He showed me which was the Mama, Dada, Finn and Leo candle. Which was the tallest, shortest, and which one was tired and needed to go night-night. Then we pretended to light them all with our "finger lighters" and blew them out three times in a row.

I got out a special basket for him to keep them all in, because I don't think this obsession is fading anytime soon.
