Aquarium Adventure

Let me first start by saying that nap time is both a blessing and a curse. During the week nap time gives me an hour to myself to get things done, or not, as I choose. But during the weekend, nap time seems to mostly just get in the way of having a good time. Its really hard to squeeze a big adventure into a before-nap-time or after-nap-time slot. So we generally stick closer to home than we like.

But President's Weekend called us to have an adventure, and so we made it work. Leo had his nap on the two hour drive to Monterey, and we got to enjoy the aquarium. What an amazing place. I haven't been there in 15 years, and it has grown even more impressive since then.

It was lunchtime when we arrived, and we had a surprisingly delicious lunch in the aquarium's sit-down restaurant. Our table was in a bay window, and with the provided binoculars and ID cards the boys were able to spot harbor seals, sea otters, and various birds while waiting for their meals.

After lunch Finn led us around to see octopi, jellyfish, sharks, bat rays, sea otters, turtles, and so many other curious things. The highlight for the boys was the giant wave that crashed over a glass dome every 30 seconds while they ran wild underneath.

Such a great adventure. I'm looking forward to more in the future.
